i love vacation. vacay means a lot of spare time to make and experiment on good food. week's menu so far:

oven roasted potato slices with olive oil and garlic pepper.

with some cayenne pepper spiced neck chops and a homemade mushroom stew w/creme fraiche.

also got cravings for large american muffins the other day.

big ass muffins.

light dinner: romano salad with cucumber, avocado, smoked salmon and lots of shrimps. topped with creme fraiche dressing.

i went to on a weekendtrip with the guys this weekend, to a cabin far out in the woods that a buddy of mine owns. it was all back to basics, no shower, no water (we had to bring our own). there was just a little cute cabin, charcoal grill to prepare food and an outhouse. it was fun, with a lot of fooling around, games and we even tried to go fishing. no luck on that though. even the dogs had a blast.

had a late hangout with the gang. got a craving for homemade pizza with gorgonzola and mozarella, so ended up making it. can't let a craving go unsatisfied. we also wanted to watch a-team. mike and michelle came by, it was the first real hangout since they got back from cali. it ended up the girls vs them boys on the pizza making. both ended up real good though, just got to take a little easy on that gorgonzola next time. then rest of the gang came over, even camilo came all the way from bergen. we ended up watching to movies, was pleasantly surprised over the a-team movie. anticipation weren't that high at first, i grew up with these guys and that awesome van, but it was cool. lot's of blowing up stuff.

also got to play with an nikon sb-800. damnit, gotta get me one of those.

my godmother called me one day and said she wanted to go out and eat with me, my sisters and the naceno family. it was a really nice day, the sun was shining, and we went to fridays at aker brygge and had a really nice time. great food and great family. this should be done more often. brought my camera so i could capture some nice family moments. thanks ninang and naceno family!

went to the "beach" this summer. it's not an ideal beach, but you got the sea, some sand, a lot of rocks and grass. this is where hot oslo'ers come to cool off. the weather forecast said clear blue sky, so we thought we should be there early and get a good spot, since hot summer days means a packed beach. but we came too early, because the sun was hiding behind the clouds and it was super windy. so the gang, and all the others that also came too early, where lying on their spots, covered with towels, blankets and clothes to keep the warmth. thankfully, the hot grills also helped. so we waited, and after a while, the sun finally came out, and the beach was suddenly packed! maybe it was good we came early after all, cuz people just kept coming. it was a nice sunday out, hope there will be more days like this!

sun has been shining these past days, so we went for a drive to let the dogs run and play. we picked up allan and his dog chica, and drove up to ekeberg. there were big fields of grass, so we practised with leon catching frisbee, while chica just smelled around and watching.

i was craving the italian bread foccacia this other day. i knew i could just buy it from the grocery-store, but i decided to make it myself because:

1. craving kicked in after midnight, stores were closed.

2. it's expensive to buy 2 small foccacia buns several times a week.

3. i was kinda bored.

4. DYI is cheap. 11 kroners cheap if you got the ingredients.

so, i googled for a simple recipe. making the dough took 5 minutes and some muscle power. then just had to wait for it to double its size for 30 minutes. all it took was:

1kg flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 package of dry yeast

olive oil

coarse sea salt and thyme

pre-heated oven on 200 degrees celsius and patience for about 20-25 minutes

ready dough.

spread the dough evenly and have the salt, herbs and olive (extra virgin) ready.

sprinkle drops of olive oil, thyme (or other herbs) and a pinch of sea salt. then punch the dough with a fork before putting it in the oven.

done when golden on top! the red colour is from red pesto i smeared on when it was 5 minutes left in the oven.

it's ok to test, but let it rest.

breakfast!! chorizo and good spread is mandatory.

our cousin lariza celebrated her confirmation last saturday and it was nice to see family and friends gathered together. and ofcourse the nice food! after the celebration the shooting stars team, family and friends came to celebrate their victory. it sure was good times. people was such in a good mood, it was fun to take pictures this day. just happy folks.

busy busy week. been helping my sis cleaning up and organising the storages at stress karl johan. all the dust and pollen have really kept my airwaves tight and affecting my tastebuds. that sucks. anyways, it's been nice just working at my own tempo, organising all the clothes my way. plus the staff in karl johan are pretty cool people. almost done though, and the storages looks pretty decent. besides that, i've also tried to play with the new cam and it's features. it's fun.

it's been a good weekend for the halo halos. ags came home, i celebrated my birthday and mike won the finals with his team shooting stars. me and mike also went to visit the new yoghurt place "yoghurt heaven" to take some pics and shoot for a little commercial that will be on mike's blog once edited. pics and more of that later this upcoming week. the sun has been good and been starting to work on that annual tan (colour: dirty brown...). and i finally upgraded to a better camera and been testing it the whole weekend. talking about being a kid on xmas eve. much shoot and play ofcourse.

finaly done with my 2nd year. mike's almost done soon. excited about this summer, some of the halo halos are going abroad, while i'm gonna spend my summer here in oslo. got a good feeling about this one. after delivering my papers, me and my classmates went straight to the park, the sun was hot, and every green spot in oslo was filled with sun-craving people. bbq-smell everywhere and people yelling cheers.

siete pares jrs_shooting stars

went to watch a couple of matches at the filipino basketball league 2010. first game was siete pares jrs vs. dabaw, and the jrs finally got their first win. then some other matches not worth mentioning went by, then the shooting stars where up vs. naic and what a game. bet the naic team where surprised about how good the younger team where. good for them, there was much foul play and nasty elbows from them. next time the referees should be replaced and that the league should hire some real referees. anyways, the shooting stars unfortunately lost, but they were still winners for us. you guys got the next game, show them buck-whatever-boyz. it's all just talk and some hella gorilla arms. hehe. (yeah, kinda hateful, but it's a blog. so whatevz.)

it's nice having some days off. the summer is almost here and i just love oslo when the sun is out. took a walk with my camera and ended up visiting the opera to take some pictures with my classmate. i love the lines, the shadows and the structure. it's a really good spot to play with the camera, just make sure to bring your shades, because it's so white everywhere. here are some of the shots i'm kinda happy with.

yesterday we celebrated norway's birthday, the 17th of may. to start the day, we had this traditional champagne breakfast with lots of salmon, hams, shrimps, bread, fruits and some sparkling. wish all the halo halo could be joined together, hopefully next year. mike had his breakfast with his guys at his plays, and i had some friends and family over. after some dessert, coffee and champagne, the weather turned out quite nice, so we decided to meet up with others and take a trip down town. it was packed with people ofcourse, but it was a really nice atmosphere. people were drinking, eating and celebrating. all in all, a really nice day.

week started rough, had my exams on monday and wednesday, and now i finally get to have a good break from school. since it's a holiday tomorrow, it means that stores are closed and almost everyone has the day off!
as i mentioned, it's been a couple of hard weeks, but i did get to snap some pics and have some fun.

this is just random blurbing, but i was always curious (and kinda bothered by) why zippers and buttons where on different sides on men's and women's clothing. there's been so many times where i've been standing like an idiot and trying to close the zipper, and cursing (frantically in my mind) why i keep buying mens clothing because it feels like i'm 4 years old again and just started dressing myself.

"zip, damnit".

"#$%"&%#!!"

so, i brought myself to finally google it and wiki says:

"Womens zippers on the left side because along time ago women were dressed by other people and because of this it was easier for the buttons and zippers to be on the left side. Whereas mens zippers, buttons, and general fasteners are on the right side because guys used to dress themselves. "

and then i googled more, and found endless of forums with discussions by people that also was bothered by this:

why are almost all other countries zippers on the left side of the  zipper when it is unzipped, it makes so much more sense to zip a coat  with your right hand, then i put on a coat from canada, and it pisses me  off so much

I think it has something to do with like the royalty in england  having zippers on their clothing first, in which a handmaid would  obviously zip and un-zip the clothing, then the rest of the nobility got  them the same way and by the time it had spread to the masses, they  still had zippers on the left.

Now I'm guessing in America they were like screw the royalty, its all  about the common man with no nobility, and when they made zippers they  were like yea we should put it on the right because honestly I don't  have a handmaid.

Of course this is just a guess, I have no clue.

Like Quailman said.  The royalty use to have someone zip their  clothes for them, so if the zipper was on the left, it would be on the  person zipping it's right.  Does that make sense?

after many days with rain, the sun finally appeared and it really felt like spring today. so some of us met up with our cameras and went on a stroll down to grunerløkka. and so did everybody else that stayed in oslo this easter. thinner jackets and shades on. you were also bound to meet someone you know along the way. ice coffee, sushi and good friends = nice sunday.

met mr. quality time and he joined us on our hunt for coffee. most of the spots were either closed or full, but we finally got our coffee.

we found coffee at bugges and then walked up again to find a spot to chill on birkelunden. ran into sammy and her friends and stopped for a little chat and helping them to find a good sushi spot.

mr. rødahl was spotted walking his dog kane, and also stopped for a chat and joined the gang.

easter vacation_out in the woods

me, eily and the others spent a couple of days at mom and dads place, to welcome mom and emma back home from pinas, but also, to gather the family and EAT. yes, we've eaten so much these past days than we do in a week i think. the rain also took a break, so we took the opportunity to take the dogs out into the woods and get some fresh air ourselves. so we walked and played fetch with the dogs, making room for more food.

food highlights from this week.

pasta with red pesto, baby spinach, rucola, fried sausage, cherry-tomatoes, red onions and lots of avocado.

gratinated potatoes in bernaise sauce with turkey sausage, garlic and cheese.

on friday we gathered the good old gang together and made homemade burgers. thanks to iron chef, my favourite partner in the kitchen. more pics from the feast here.

lot's of onion for onion rings (homemade ofcourse).

taught mimi to make the batter and fry the rings. she did good.

for side-orders along with the onion rings, we replaced the fries with sweet potatoes instead.

didn't get that crispy as we hoped, but it tasted really good.

to end this week, i craved for creamy salmon pasta with garlic and mushrooms today.

yup, it's hectic now a days for all the halo halos, i'm drowning in school assignements, some have work, and lucky mike went to paris. get jealous of him here. oslo has been good in terms of weather, the sun has been showing off and teasing us. shades out, thinner jackets, but there's still a long way to go. can't help longing for green grasses, bare legs and good times outside.

went vinyl hunting for fun with alfie, a good friend of the halo halos. he owns the blog fresh musicology! and blogs about his love for everything asian, music and most of all: games.

boy, time flies as soon as you step into rock and rolls at akersgata in oslo! 3 floors of used vinyl, cds, movies, and even the interior can be bought if you ever need a sofa, chair, lamp or an old record player. everything for a good price. if your not into vinyl, it is also a good place to shoot pics because of the relaxed ambiance. thanks for the company alfie, hope the beatles record was a good one! let's do this again.

found the "pata pata" song in good condition. gotsta have it.
